A Healthy Alternative to Nutella You’ll Go Nuts For

While Nutella’s been a success among children and adults since the 1960’s all around the world due to its creamy hazelnut chocolate taste, sadly it’s not as nutritious as its makers would like you to think it is. To the contrary, it features various red flags that shouldn’t be ignored, especially if you’re seeking a healthy clean diet. The good news is that everyone can now enjoy the same authentic taste while giving up the unhealthy ingredients!

The Undesirables Hiding In A Nutella Jar

Nutella’s core ingredients include Sugar, Palm Oil, Hazelnuts, Coco Solids, Skimmed Milk and Soy Products. Some of the variations depending on the region also contain Vegetable Oil, Whey Powder and Synthetic Vanillin:  an Artificial Flavor. Other than the coco powder and hazelnuts, the rest of the ingredients are pretty much nasties processed for mass production that everyone should stay away from.

Sugar cane, canola, soy and corn are among highly genetically modified substances. Milk in North America mostly contains added Hormones and Antibiotics and Palm Oil has its own controversy surrounding it.

The Healthy Alternative

Meet Nocciolata: An All Organic Hazelnut Chocolate Spread. Made with natural raw ingredients that are certified organic, it tastes absolutely amazing and contains none of the undesirables Nutella does. No GMOs, no hydrogenated fat, no artificial flavors or chemicals, gluten-free, no soy, no harsh processing, no palm oil! Instead of palm and canola it uses organic sunflower oil, instead of soy lecithin it uses organic sunflower lecithin, instead of Vanillin it uses organic vanilla extract and so on. Basically it’s clean under the hood and as good as it gets.

It even has a beautiful family story behind the product, which I was glad to discover during my research. So whether you prefer the decadent taste of creamy choco hazelnut on your morning toast or to dip your fruits into chocolate bliss or to garnish your crepes or simply to bake with, once you’ve tried this savory alternative I can guarantee you’ll never go back to Nutella.

I love to mix it with fruits!IMG_20151015_131552

Where To Find Nocciolata

I discovered Nocciolata at my healthy local supermarket where it sells for $4.99 per 270 g jar. If you’re in the US, here is a list of stores that sell it throughout the country. If you’re in Canada but can’t find it at your local health food store, you may try ordering online, however it is much cheaper at the store unless you buy bulk and there are no shipping fees. If you’re in Italy, chances are you could find it locally as it is where it comes from. If you’re elsewhere in the world, try your local healthy markets and if they don’t have it, perhaps you can suggest it as a new product. I’ve often done that locally and it worked multiple times. When I discover something good online I just speak to the store manager and if he sees potential, they add it to their inventory or at least test it in store first.

For those of you in the US, you can even win a free jar here!

Right about now you might be craving some delicious Nocciolata. I know I am! Luckily I have a couple of spare jars in the pantry 🙂 Once you get your own, check out these cool recipes you can make to delight the whole family!

    • Hahaha yeah it changed my life!! I mean it’s as clean as it gets. Obviously we should nom nom sugar in moderation, but in this case at least the other components wont cause any harm 🙂 Enjoy!

      • Exactly! I’d also be interested in making my own sometime. I’d sweeten it with raw honey, stevia, or maple syrup instead. ^_^

      • Amazing idea! We can both do it for fun. I’m a big fan of raw honey, coconut sugar… We can also make some gluten free pancakes or dip delicious fruit for the taste test 😀 One of these weekends… Challenge accepted?
