Sometimes you wake up fully rested and rejuvenated from a good night’s sleep and other times, let’s be honest, you wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
Regardless of the scenario, here is a step by step ritual I follow every morning that helps me start the day right! Just to be clear, all of it is done before breakfast.
Stretching in bed
I learned from my cats that you can’t stay in any position for a long time and just pick up and go. No, that’s not how it works in the animal kingdom and they seem to have instinctively figured it out before us. So as soon as I wake up, I take 3 to 5 minutes to stretch out. I pretty much do what the cats do :p
Lemon Water Detox
Once I’m done snoozing, all stretched out and have fed the cats (yes they come first), I proceed to drinking a glass of lemon water. I keep a nice jar in the fridge. Some say it’s better to drink warm, however I really like the refreshing cold taste in the morning. I use only organic lemons and spring water, 2 ingredients you can find anywhere and I usually prepare it during the evening so there’s absolutely no prep time in the morning. My own version of Bulletproof Coffee
I love love love the taste of coffee and drink it more for enjoyment than out of necessity. I have one cup a day in the morning, following my already energizing lemon water potion. Here’s what my cup of java includes:
- Organic coffee
- Organic unrefined sugar
- 1 tea spoon of raw honey
- 1/2 tea spoon of either coconut oil or organic butter
- Fresh organic 10% cream
This sweet & creamy delight supercharges my day and gives me that extra boost I crave in the morning along with a taste I can’t resist.
Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
Once I’ve moved around a little and digested the previous fluids, I proceed with squeezing 3-4 organic oranges into my mug (pulp included). It tastes amazing regardless of the season. My mom, who is a super knowledgeable holistic health consultant, recommended this drink for balancing my hormones. However, freshly squeezed orange juice offers plenty of other benefits.
